Cuu Long Delta

One of the most unique experiences in the Mekong Delta is visiting the floating markets, where you can witness daily life and local culture. Additionally, the region is home to a diverse population, including ethnic Vietnamese, Cham, Khmer, and Chinese communities.

Renowned for its unique ecosystem and diverse population unlike anywhere else in the world, the Mekong Delta (also known as the Cuu Long Delta) deserves more than an afternoon in your exploration journey. There’s much to say about this region, starting with its vast expanse, fertility, and pristine nature. The name “Cuu Long” symbolizes the nine branches that form this extensive alluvial plain, spanning 12 provinces and one centrally governed city in southern Vietnam.

Often referred to as the “rice bowl” of Vietnam, the Mekong Delta contributes over half of the country’s rice and fish production, sustaining 60 million people along its development path. The climate here is divided into a dry season (from November to April) and a rainy season (from May to October), bringing abundant rainfall and winds during the monsoons. For many travelers, the Mekong Delta stands out for its lush tropical fruit orchards, floating markets, and stilt-house villages.

One of the most unique experiences in the Mekong Delta is visiting the floating markets, where you can witness daily life and local culture. Additionally, the region is home to a diverse population, including ethnic Vietnamese, Cham, Khmer, and Chinese communities. Visitors have ample opportunities to interact with locals and explore the local culture. Despite not being a vast area, the Mekong Delta hosts various religious practices, including Buddhism, Catholicism, Cao Dai, Hoa Hao, and Islam.

For those interested in these distinctive features, Truc Lam Nam Bo Monastery, Vinh Trang Pagoda, and Doi Pagoda are excellent places to visit. The Mekong Delta also hosts vibrant and colorful festivals, such as Ky Yen and the Ok Om Bokor festival celebrated by the Khmer community in Tra Vinh. Among these, the Thanh Nong festival holds special significance for many residents of the Mekong Delta. This festival takes place regularly every 6 months in the lunar months of February and August. On this occasion, local residents have the opportunity to express gratitude for the agricultural conditions of the past year and hope for a bountiful harvest in the coming year. Lastly, but importantly, don’t forget to try some specialties from the Mekong Delta, such as Purple Sticky Rice Cake, Coconut Candy, Rice Paper, and many other delicacies.

V'Sunshine Travel is delighted to accompany you and provide the best services for travelers exploring the Mekong Delta region.
